I have been selected to attend the next NASA Social event testing an RS-25 engine in support of the SLS program at the NASA Stennis faculty! These are the repurposed Space Shuttle main engines. The test will be happening on the same stands used to test the Saturn V engines. We should get to witness a full 8.5 minute burn as well as visiting the Michoud facility where they are building the SLS’ core. If you want to follow me during the event I am !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on Twitter and Instagram. Also, if you have questions then post them below. I will do my best to get them answered.

Here are more details on what we will be doing. NASA Social participants will have the opportunity to:

get a rare behind the scenes look at everything NASA is doing to get ready for deep space travel

see manufacturing taking place for the core stage of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! — NASA’s new heavy-lift rocket that will send humans to deep space destinations

see a structural model used for testing the new Orion spacecraft, which will take humans beyond Earth orbit

see NASA’s journey to Mars come alive through exhibits and speakers set up throughout NASA’s Michoud Assembly Facility

witness the mighty RS-25 engine test firing

tour NASA facilities at Stennis Space Center

speak with representatives from NASA and the contract companies creating the capabilities to send humans to Mars

view and take photographs of the facilities and the RS-25 engine

see and hear the technologies needed to explore the Red Planet, habitat and lander development, and recent progress on SLS, the Orion spacecraft and ground systems operations

visit the historic B-2 test stand that is being renovated for SLS testing. Four RS-25 engines will be used to power the massive core stage of the SLS

meet fellow space enthusiasts who are active on social media

meet members of the NASA social media team

So, how did you get selected? Did you have to write an essay?

Sounds like an absolute blast. Have fun, and send us lots of pictures (I don’t Twit).

I had to answer some questions and show how I was active on social media. I’m on Twitter, so I am covered there. I also shared links for some of the long form stuff I have posted here. Not a ton of effort.

It sounds pretty incredible. I’m am really excited to see some of the old Apollo stuff and where they are building the SLS hardware.

FYI- I spent the day seeing where they build the Bombardier C-Series. Pretty plane.

They don't allow guests. They are pretty firm on that.
